Live in the Seattle area and looking for a community? Live out of state or abroad and have narrowed down Seattle as a potential location for your next home?
Each week of August and September, I will feature a Neighborhood Spotlight so you can get to know the city a bit better – and may end up making a House into a Home!
Queen Anne
Spoiler alert, I am 1000% biased. I decided to start with Queen Anne, my local neighborhood because I love it! We have some incredible restaurants, killer views of Seattle, great parks, and deep architectural history. Everywhere in Queen Anne is walkable, so stroll in my hood and hit me up when you do.
Average Sale Price
The average sale price in July for a home in Queen Anne was $1,667,000. Most homes sold in less than eight days!
Notable Home Style
If you are looking for a 1900’s craftsman, you have come to the right place. My wife Allison and I live in a remodeled 1909 craftsman, and we just can’t get enough of its charm. The classic craftsman homes in our neighborhood have exterior bold multi-color paint schemes, intricate designs, and low-pitched roofs. The interiors will have pervasive exposed natural hardwood floors and likely a number of other natural minerals in the house.
Popular Streets
Bigalow, Highland, and Lee are some of the most iconic and desirable streets to live on. Visit during the fall to see these streets lined with fallen leaves of every color. In the summer, 7th Ave West looks like you are driving through a tree sanctuary, with trees looming over both sides of the road making for an angelic scene. If you want a faster pace and some night life, live right on the main drag in QA, Queen Anne Avenue.
Neighborhood Recommendation
Again, I am biased as Betty is very special to me. Allison took me to dinner there the night she proposed. Several months later, we brought our computers back and spent hours drinking red wine and writing our wedding vows. This is a local’s favorite – with classic American dishes. They are known for Crow’s lasagna and their oven roasted chicken dish – both are excellent. The regulars are frequent, the cocktails are fire, and the staff is personable and lovely. You may even see Megan Rapinoe and Sue Bird, they come in often!
Notable Activities
With our family of four, there is plenty to do in Queen Anne. On Thursdays, we walk to our local farmer’s market where London and Kennedy get free fresh fruit as part of the children’s fresh produce program. On weekend mornings, we usually start by walking the crown and taking in sights such as Kerry Park, local ferries, and maybe even a cruise ship. On Sundays, we head to the splash pad at Little Howe, come early as it gets packed! If we want a little more action and fanfare, we head down the hill and take in a Storm Game at Climate Pledge Arena.
Notable Parks
Dogs and families are welcome in Queen Anne. We boost a number of great parks. If you want to see the best views of the city, head to Kerry Park or the hidden gem, Bhy Kracke. Your children want to play soccer, swing, or swim in the splash pad? Map to Little Howe. Want a quiet afternoon of reading in a hidden garden? Find Parsons, you may even catch a wedding!
